Overnotch · Notifications
Alerts where your eyes already are.
Notifications land in the notch with the sender's face and the whole message, stack up when they arrive together, and let you reply right there.
Try it — send a few, then raise the minimum priority.
In the notch
Who, and what they said.
The sender's face — their Contacts photo, or their initials — with the app's icon on it, their name, and the message in up to three lines. Click it and the app opens, like any macOS notification (unless you can reply to it — see below); the close button appears when you hover.
Reply
Answer without switching apps.
When the app lets you reply from its notification — Messages, WhatsApp and the like — click the message and a field opens right under it, with the notch's own emoji picker and a button to open the app. Type, press Return, and it's sent; the notch stays open while you write.
Stacked
A few at once, one list.
Messages that arrive together stack up in the notch, the newest on top — up to three. Nothing waits in a queue to pop up after the conversation is over.
Priority
The one that matters isn't buried.
Every notification is rated low, normal, important or urgent. People outrank promotions, a verification code outranks everything, and the more it matters the longer it stays. Set a minimum and anything below it never reaches the notch.
Summaries · Pro
The long ones, shortened.
When a message won't fit in three lines, Apple Intelligence sums it up in one, marked with a sparkle and written by the model on your Mac — the text never leaves it.
The macOS banner
Your corner stays clear.
Replace keeps the macOS banner off your screen — every app's, WhatsApp's included — so the same alert doesn't show up twice. It still goes to Notification Center, where you'll find it as always. Prefer both? Mirror leaves the banner where it is.
Good to know
- Switch it on
- Settings → Notifications. It needs Accessibility to read banners and reply to them, and Contacts for the photos — without it, initials.
- Summaries
- Pro, on macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence. Faces, replies, stacking and priority are free.
- Profiles
- Work shows normal and up, Match only the important ones, and Presenting keeps notifications out of the notch altogether.
- Privacy
- Notifications, contacts and your replies stay on your Mac and are never sent anywhere else. Even the diagnostics log leaves their content out.
