Changelog
What shipped, week by week. Nothing here is a plan — only things that are done.
The app is finished and waiting on Apple's signature before it can run on your Mac. Until then, this page is the honest answer to "is anyone still working on this?".
Sports, side-by-side activities and a new lock screen
Live scores redesigned, music and timers side by side, a glass player with lyrics on the lock screen, and almost 30% less CPU.
New
- Sports: a new scoreboard — crests outside the notch, the score by the camera, the live minute in red.
- Sports: goals, cards, VAR, kickoff and full time take the center as they happen.
- Sports: play music during a match and the game moves to a pill beside the notch.
- Live Activities: whatever started last takes the center; the rest wait in pills on either side.
- Timers: they live in the notch, with a ring, Pause and Cancel.
- Lock Screen: a glass player, with lyrics that come in line by line.
- Volume and brightness: a compact bar, flush with the menu bar.
- First launch: three short steps, each with a Try it now.
Improved
- AirPods: a large card with a battery ring, announced once.
- Battery: Full Battery 100%, and Charging On Hold when macOS holds at 80%.
- Clipboard: bigger cards with sharp previews of images, links, videos and documents.
- Notch: exactly flush with the menu bar, and the Focus selection slides instead of jumping.
- Pills beside the notch move smoothly when you switch sections.
- Lock Screen: 60 fps on battery.
- Performance: almost 30% less CPU, and nothing animates while hidden.
- English everywhere: about 70 more strings, with US spelling.
Fixed
- Unlocking no longer flashes a black screen.
- Clicking your wallpaper to show the desktop no longer pushes the notch away.
- Timers: Pause and Cancel now reach the Clock app.
- Battery: no more "unplugged" when charging finishes.
Focus, calls and notifications you can answer
The notch shows your Focus, answers calls and notifications, and the lock screen now sits behind the real macOS clock.
New
- Focus: see which Focus is on, in its color, with the time left — no permission needed. Click to switch modes.
- Calls: the caller's face and two big buttons. Once answered, the call tucks into the notch.
- Notifications: the sender's face, the whole message, stacks, and replies right from the notch.
- Notifications: an emoji picker of its own, with your favorites first.
- AirDrop: the file arrives with a progress ring, then Show in Finder and Open.
- Lock Screen: the album art sits behind the real macOS clock, date and password field.
- Lock Screen: the full player when the artwork is small, all five buttons included.
- Spotify: the heart saves to Liked Songs, with a three-step setup in Settings.
- Website: every feature has its own page with a Mac you can try, plus an Any Mac page.
Improved
- Every section animates smoothly, in step with your display.
- Notifications show only in the notch, without a second macOS banner.
- Unlocking is one movement: the padlock opens and your notch comes out of it.
- Files: the shelf stays open while you go back to Finder for the next one.
- Sections picked from the wheel stay open while you move toward them.
- The notch speaks English everywhere.
Fixed
- macOS 27: calls reach the notch while they ring.
- macOS 27: notifications reach the notch again, WhatsApp included.
- Lock Screen: every button works on a real lock.
- Replying no longer freezes the notch.
- Focus: with many modes, the first one is no longer cut off.
- Displays without a notch: no leftover corners on the island.
A new icon and an instant lock screen
The app has its own icon, the lock screen artwork appears instantly, and Overnotch leaves your wallpaper alone.
New
- App icon: the notch itself, lit, on a dark body.
- Website: lock the Mac on the home page to see the lock screen.
- Website: sharing overnotch.com shows a proper preview card.
Improved
- Lock Screen: the artwork appears instantly on lock, on song change and on unlock (it used to take 4–9 s).
- Lock Screen: shrinking the artwork brings your own wallpaper back.
- Overnotch no longer touches your wallpaper setting.
Fixed
- Unlocking no longer leaves the player on screen for a moment.
- Lock Screen: local Spotify files no longer cover the screen in gray.
- Website: the demo Mac speaks English, with even bezels.
Keyboard access and a cleaner sports strip
The website works with a keyboard and answers the usual questions, and the app's logs got quieter.
New
- Website: a questions section.
Improved
- Website: visible keyboard focus on every form, and a skip-to-content link.
- Website: the demo's calendar, scoreboard and timer rebuilt from the app's own code.
- Sports: date, time and competition only.
Fixed
- Calendar: no more repeated warnings in the logs.
